Solution/Workaround:
Make sure you can manually start the SQL service.  If you can’t start the SQL service, change the user name password and start the service after that (http://santhoshsivarajan.blogspot.com/2009/10/dpm-database-and-sql-server-password.html).  You should be able to continue with your DPM installation after starting the SQL service.
